Beaumont City Council Will Consider Appointing New City Manager

This is the first permanent City Manager appointment the City Council has considered in many years. The City has had two interim City Managers since the long-time Manager Alan Kapanicas left City employment in June of 2015. “This was an extremely important decision, one that Council hasn’t had in 20 years. Council took this opportunity very seriously. The search was extensive and we cast a nationwide net that attracted 42 candidates. Our executive recruiter vetted candidates and Council interviewed the top candidates, and in some cases twice.

I look forward to our citizens having the opportunity to meet Mr. Parton”, said Mayor Mike Lara.

Mr. Parton is currently the City Manager of Kerrville, Texas with 307 employees serving a population of 23,500. He has been a City Manager, City Administrator, Planning Director or consultant with local governments for 26 years. He has a reputation of tackling difficult issues including financial and economic development challenges in various Texas communities.
Mr. Parton is married and has two grade school children. He has a Masters Degree in Public Administration and Bachelor of Science Degree in Emergency Administration and Planning, both from the University of North Texas.
“I am honored to have been selected by the Beaumont City Council, especially during such a critical time in the community’s history. Beaumont is an energetic city that is experiencing unprecedented growth in all sectors. With careful planning and sound fiscal management, Beaumont will be able to leverage this growth to create a dynamic and sustainable city that offers prosperity and a high quality of life. I look forward to assisting Beaumont citizens and elected leaders in addressing current and future challenges. I also look forward to leading an effective team of City public servants who are committed to achieving the community’s vision and who earn the community’s trust”, said Mr. Parton.
Mayor Pro Tem White said, “We completed an extensive effort to find an experienced City Manager that will help the Council restore our citizen’s trust and confidence in their city government. We wanted a City Manager with proven experience working with neighboring cities and agencies in order to bring regional solutions to Beaumont’s transportation and water issues. I am confident Mr. Parton will meet the challenges we face and bring a welcomed new chapter in our City’s direction.”
Mr. Parton’s first day on the job will be October 31st, assuming his appointment occurs at the September 20th City Council.
