Beaumont City Councilwoman Brenda Knight will not seek a second term and four candidates have qualified so far for the November election.
New candiates could emerge as the deadline to run has been extended until Wednesday, Aug. 17.
Those who have qualified for the election are appointed incumbent Della Condon, elected Treasurer Nancy Carroll, City Clerk Julio Martinez and community gadfly Victor Dominguez.
Martinez sought the appointment that went to Condon early this year after longtime Councilman Jeff Fox died. At the time, Condon said she was not going to run for a full term.
Dominguez, who has run for a council seat in the past, was arrested in April on suspicion of murder in the shooting death of 40-year-old Mario Lara. Two days later,he was released from the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning after Riverside County prosecutors declined to file criminal charges, kicking the case back to the Beaumont Police Department.
