(Beaumont, CA) Following the results of an audit of the City of Beaumont’s finances which revealed numerous and specific instances of forged check warrants, personal use of government funds by City officials, personal loans to City officials, payments of over $1 million with no explanation, and various other irregularities, residents are calling upon District Attorney Paul Zellerbach to open an investigation.
Utilizing the website www.CleanUpBeaumont.org, over 200 residents thus far have submitted petition letters. The site, which went live on February 28th, has generated a significant amount of interest in a short period of time and traffic to the site has steadily increased. Beaumont Citizens for Responsible Growth, which hosts the website, will be printing hard copies and delivering by mail all letters submitted.
The letters, which are addressed to District Attorney Paul Zellerbach, will also be forwarded to the FBI, State Controller’s Office, Riverside County Auditor-Controller’s Office, Congressman Raul Ruiz, Senator Bill Emmerson, Assemblyman Brian Nestande and Riverside County Supervisor Marion Ashley.
The first batch of approximately 200 letters was sent out on Monday.
“It’s time to once and for all put an end to the culture of cronyism, favoritism, intimidation, and blatant disregard for the rule of law, which has been the standard operating procedure for far too long at Beaumont City Hall,” said BCRG President Judy Bingham. “The residents and business owners of Beaumont deserve true transparency in local government, and the knowledge that our tax dollars are being handled properly.”
