Beaumont’s former finance director William Aylward and his wife, former deputy city clerk Shelby Hanvey, were scheduled to testify this week in San Francisco in front of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission regarding Beaumont’s $43 million corruption scandal.
Hanvey was set to testify Wednesday Aug. 31 and Thursday, Sept. 1.
There were no dates listed for Aylward’s testimony.
The SEC is investigating the city’s use of bond funds, which resulted in the arrest of seven former Beaumont city officials in May 2016, including former city manager Alan Kapanicas, Aylward, former police chief Frank Coe, former city attorney Joe Aklufi, and former Urban Logic Consultant principals David Dillon, Deepak Moorjani and Ernest Egger.
Hanvey was subpoenaed in a letter sent by the SEC in July.
Hanvey and Aylward had requested that the city defend them but the city council rejected that request at the Aug. 16 meeting.
