Seven Beaumont defendants set for arraignment February 3, 2017

The seven defendants in the Beaumont corruption case are set for arraignment on Feb. 3, 2017 in Riverside County Superior Court.
Three of the defendants – Alan Kapanicas, William Aylward and Deepak Moorjani – were in Judge Mac Fisher’s courtroom Friday morning. The other four defendants – Frank Coe, David Dillon, Ernest Egger and Joe Aklufi – were not present.
The seven were arrested in May 2016 on suspicion of embezzling $43 million from the city of Beaumont.
A preliminary hearing could be set 30 days after the arraignment, according to the court.
Fisher also asked that three character witnesses for Alan Kapanicas return on Feb. 3. They are former Beaumont council members Brian DeForge and Roger Berg, along with Deborah Waitschies.
